EXCHANGE STUDIES
There are several opportunities to go on exchange on the ES program. You can either go via Uppsala University, the faculty (in our case the Faculty of Technology and Natural Sciences), departments (e.g. mathematics, chemistry or physics and astronomy) or SLU. They are slightly differently focused, where UU and SLU can offer places at schools outside and within Europe, while the faculty and departments almost only have places within Europe. The application period to go away for an autumn semester via UU starts around 15/10 and closes 15/11, i.e. you apply almost a year in advance. The search for the faculty and department is later between 15/1 and 15/2 and finally SLU from 15/10 to 12/12. It is possible to study abroad for one or two semesters!
The application for exchange via UU and faculty/department consists of two parts, the first of which is an essay called APS where you explain why you want to go on exchange and other grades. For SLU, the entire application is your APS and no consideration is given to your grades. Once per semester, an information evening about studying abroad is organized, which is good to attend if you are keen to go. There you can get tips for your APS, ask students who have previously been on exchange and hear what the application process looks like. There is also a Facebook group called “FETaste exchange” where lots of good info comes out so be sure to check it outhere!
